Sanctions That Miss the Mark: Why Trump’s Trade Tools May Backfire

Just listened to the latest Chatham House podcast – “Independent Thinking” with Bronwen Maddox, titled “Trump’s Tools: Tariffs and Sanctions.” (Listen to Podcast here)

I strongly support the core argument made:
Massive secondary tariffs (like the proposed 500%) and sanctions are not only unrealistic — they’re largely unproductive.
The U.S.’s past sanctions on Cuba, Iran (post-nuclear deal), and Venezuela led to little meaningful change.

Inspired by the discussion, I created a quick infographic outlining some key risks the U.S. could face if it pushes ahead with extreme secondary tariffs — especially involving China and India, both major trade partners.
